Combine electronics, battery life, and durability in an ultra-compact device.

Kippy develops connected devices for monitoring the location, activity, and well-being of dogs and cats, integrated into a dedicated hardware and software ecosystem.

The project required the integration of electronics, a battery, communication systems, and mechanical components into a compact device designed for everyday outdoor use, where it would be exposed to impacts, water, dirt, and constant stress.

PQ Design Group oversaw the industrial design and product development activities, focusing on product architecture, ergonomics, integration with the collar, and the optimization of production processes.

One of the most challenging aspects of the project was finding the right balance between battery life, size, and durability, while keeping the device lightweight and comfortable for the animal without compromising reliability and performance.

Over the years, the platform has evolved into several versions designed for dogs and cats, maintaining a strong sense of design continuity and helping to build a recognizable product identity within the Kippy ecosystem.

Design Challenges

1. Integrate the electronics, antenna, and IP68-rated seal

Develop a compact housing capable of protecting the electronics, battery, and charging systems, while also managing the antenna, connectivity, and water resistance of the product.

3. Design a proprietary quick-release system

Develop a stable, intuitive, and secure fastening solution designed for everyday use on collars and leashes for active pets.

3. Combine durability with a perception of premium quality

Work on materials, finishes, and tactile feel—including the soft-touch TPU strap—to create a durable, comfortable product that aligns with the brand’s positioning.
